Scringent Arms Ordinance passed lately Police vigilant
American Consul satisfied with my action.

By Proclamations under Ordinance No. 3
of 1862, the export of arms, ammunition, gunpowder, and military
and naval scores from this Colony has been prohibited, except
wich permission under Ordinance 3 of 1884, since the 28th.
November, 1897, and since that time the Police have used
every endeavour to prevent the illicit exportation of the
prohibiced articles, and have made numerous seizures of
arms and ammunition. I enclose a copy of the last Proclama-
sion (which will be renewed in due course) on the subject,
and on receipt of your telegram under acknowledgment, I
issued a notice in the Government Gazette calling absencion
to the fact that the Proclamation was still in force, and
. warning all persons to pay it due respect. I also communicat-
ed wich the Consul-General for the United States, who
expressed himself as satisfied with the measures taken.
